„How could you reach the pearl
by only looking at the sea?
If you seek the pearl,
be a diver.“
Rumi
The making of pearls is painful indeed. But finding gems where we think only pain is, is all the more wondrous. The music on my second album, “Deeper”, is an invitation to dare your own plunges, uncover hidden treasures, and live deeply. Releasing these pearls and letting in the light has been a precious journey of discovery – an expedition unto depths unknown, an unexpected story of finding joy, courage, companionship and the miracle of Love (again) along the way.
***
When I was trying to come up with a title for my first album, “The Space between”, I came across this beautiful quote by Khalil Gibran, which wraps my intentions and experiences that inspired this set of songs so beautifully:
“Let there be spaces in your togetherness.
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.”
It is this space between that I mean, this space where my music and probably all music comes from: the space that holds the apartness as well as the togetherness, the stillness and the music.
Dedication
None of this would have been possible without the loving and dedicated support of many:
I thank
… You and the Love that inspired us and this.
… my family and friends for keeping me grounded and reminding me of my wings.
… Spring – you not only helped me bring this to life, but truly inspired me to uncover that space within, between and beyond what I thought possible.
… Erhard, Jan, Hans, David and Darius – thank you for gracing these songs with your musical genius.
